Hi, so we are going to arrange a softball team in TGSA. Is anyone around SD still playing?

Hi seniors,
note that all participants in this game should be students. But I think it would be a good chance to play/practice together.

PS, Elmer Ko is currently the president of TGSA. I am copying him in this mail.

I still learn every day, but not a student anymore by conventional definition.

Please keep me in the loop and I might join for practice when I am around.

We can have a team for students, and a team for post-students, if there are enough interests.

Thanks,

Ray

I have no idea where the old equipment was. If it was lost, then we can all chip in to buy the new equipment. Someone from the 'student' side might want to take this initiative as you are the majority.

Hi seniors, so what do we have now???? When you say chip in, how does this work?

Ask Author or Charles. They were in charge of the team and might know where the equipment is.

Best,
Bear

We will need have at least 2 bats, 1 rubber base set, and 2 dozens of softballs to start the practice (assuming everyone bring his/her own glove). I would suggest the 'student representative' (maybe Yute for this time being?) tries to track down Arthur or Charles to figure out where the old equipment was first. If the equipment cannot be found, then the student representative needs to figure out how much we want to spend on the equipment (price varies depending on quality, needs to be ASA certified and likely $400-$600) and come up with the number each person needs to chip in. Non students can pay more if they are willing to - for example, student $25, post-doc $50, others $75. But if we ask non-student players to pay, then we have to think if we can restrict their participation to practice only. These are something the student representative needs to consider.

I have both bats and I'm already going to let the students borrow one of them.  Either my friend will pick it up from me or I will drop it off at the practice as soon I know when/where the practice would be.  As far as other equipment, I have no idea where it is.  I've been trying to track it down for sometime, and haven't had any luck.

I don't mind letting people borrow the bat, as I'm happy to see it's finally getting used again.  But I need to ask someone to be responsible for keeping the bat after each practice.  It took me a long time to relocate it and would not want it to be lost again.  It was a $200 bat purchased by a few of old-timers which most of them are not here anymore.  不好意思,因為這幾支球棒陪我們打過很多比賽,對它們很有感情;所以哪天如果大家又不打球了,我希望還能拿回來.

Thanks Shana for getting the most difficult part of the job done and save the team $200! I think the student representative should be able to take it from here now. Anything we can help with please do not hesitate asking.

Hi seniors,
I REALLY APPRECIATE your help and have no problem at all to receive the responsibility of taking care the two bats. Do you guys happen to know  how I can reach Arthur or Charles?

Hi Shana, where/when should we meet? I live in La Regencia (7675 Palmilla dr.).

Thanks for offering to be responsible for the bat. I will have Stephanie pick up the bat on Friday.  Will let you know if otherwise.
I have to keep the other bat, as I play regularly in a league.
As far as I know, Charles and Arthur do not have the equipment.  What was left were some balls and a rubber base, no gloves.  We all bought our own gloves.  I suggest you guys chip in a couple of dollars each and buy some new balls.

Glad to hear that the SD softball is back!  Oh, those good old days.

Speaking of the gears, I am sorry to said that I won't be of much help.  The bases might belong to one of our teammates (Andy?).  Not sure where they could have end up.  The balls were pretty banged up and at the end were distributed among the teammates.  Some of us, myself, Andy and Jerry for example, bought our own bat.

I hope that you guys have fun down there at SD.  I look forward to hearing some real softball actions soon.

BTW, aren't you 'old bones' bothered when some youngsters call you 'senior'?  It sounds as if we are on medicare.

Hi Authur,
Many thanks for your info. Elmer said we would be able to borrow some equipment from UCSD after school starts(9/17). But I agree with you guys that we should have our own gloves.

Good to hear you guys will start playing again. We have some Taiwanese people at Qualcomm also want to play, not sure they are also on the list.
