Cal says — I agree with Dave. I think that these same people would be open to sampling some recreations they haven’t tried yet. This means that beginner dance parties should flourish. Churches and fraternal organizations are all ready planning for the end of the pandemic. Both usually have space available.
I beleve SSD is a good program. However, I have doubts that any program that requires 15 lessons will have much of an impact. Dance programs like Community Dance and SD-ABC will have a much better chance of getting dancers involved.
Mike’s concern about joining social groups may be valid. Certainly joining social groups that require any long term commitment will have more of a problem than casual social groups. Dance Studios that cater to people that want to not mix much with people should do pretty good.
I sent this group my feelings about Social Glue. I feel Social Glue is the key to any social program. A lot will depend on who is the leader of the group. If new dancers can come in and feel a bond with the leader, this will solve a lot of problems. This will mean that the leader much provide a long term place for dancing and not just teach a class and turn them loose on the MWSD crowd.
I sent my thoughts about restarting after Covid-19. I won’t repeat them. The problem in following the recommendation to start at the SSD level. The die hard puzzle solvers will not like that. However, these same dancers will probably find they have lost a lot of their mental skills and some of these will quit. We’ll just have to see who is left or start something new.
