San Diego, CA – MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego is proud to present a free screening of youth produced videos at its’ 2011
SPRING YOUTH MEDIA SHOWCASE. This free public screening will take place on Saturday, June 11th from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at the new MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego (2921 El Cajon Boulevard San Diego, CA 92101).
The SPRING YOUTH MEDIA SHOWCASE will celebrate the recent work by MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego’s youth producers from all over San Diego County and Tijuana. For the past six months, teens from Lincoln High School, Orange Glen High School, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, and from throughout San Diego County, have been working on digital stories and short documentaries spotlighting positive mentors in their communities and/or dealing with pertinent issues affecting the lives of many people in our San Diego – Tijuana Border Region.
Some of the highlights include Congressman Bob Filner telling his story of being a Freedom Rider in the 1960s; and a young undocumented student, Alejandra, telling her story of wanting to go to College,
and why the Dream Act is so important to her. These stories are just two of many that will make up the 60 minute presentation of youth-produced videos. The afternoon will also include a short recognition ceremony for the students, as well as complementary food and beverages.
“These videos represent more than just the skill of learning how to create videos, it is learning how to document important stories in our region.” said Ethan van Thillo, Media Arts Center San Diego’s Executive Director/Founder. “Once again, our Teen Producers have really captured some amazing stories and voices representing our diverse communities.”
The Teen Producers Project is made possible with funding by Adobe Youth Voices, the Starbucks Foundation, the Leichtag Foundation, Wells Fargo, Bridgepoint, the Bravo Foundation, City of San Diego Commission for Art and Culture, the San Diego Foundation, California Arts Council, and Bank of
America.
