Enjoy, all!

Look out for ways you can get involved by emailing me, or passing this email on to others!

Paz,

Kendell

===================================================================================

March 27, 2011 San Diego DREAM Team Conference Call:

Those on call: Nidya, Pedro, Diorella, Kendell, Esteban

Upcoming events:

Meeting with the Orange County DREAM Team (OCDT), Saturday, April 2. Time and Place TBA

(Kendell looking to reserve MAAC Project Mercado Apts. by Chicano Park, for this.)

Method: Invite other people from San Diego DREAM Team Facebook page, and Google group emails

Make this Saturday's meeting a potluck, and have OCDT bring drinks

Who is recruiting whom for this Saturday's event:

-- Esteban: recruiting Adelante Mueres and Hombres Nobles (he is vice-president), both at his University City High School

Also, contacting the "Chicano Chicana Youth Leadership Camp"

-- Diorella: ISO (Yohanna, Josiah, Gloria, etc.)

To talk  to Abril, Yohanna, Josiah, Gesimiel

And talking to Gloria about best way to contact EWB of San Diego State

-- Nidya: Human Rights Committee of Mira Costa College, AB 540 group of San Marcos, MEChA of Cal State San Marcos

Now, a DREAM Act Conference  is now happening in LA, April 9 from 9--5 p.m. at East LA Community College

It is being hosted by Assembly Person  Gil Cedillo, who is introducing the CA DREAM Act bill

CHIRLA and LA DREAM Team also expected to attend.

So far, Kendell, Caroline, and Victor are willing to drive to LA, so that is about 10-11 seats

Nidya to create an email to be sent out to other DREAMers and allies

And compose another email to ask for funding for gas and food

(Gloria has said she will donate some.)

Try and ask Gloria if she'd be willing to come to LA, too

The CA DREAM Act is now in the Appropriations Committee (evaluating how much it will cost)

GOAL: Get AB 131 to pass (includes access to Cal Grants for undocumented students), as the AB 130 version is a *very* scaled down-version

April 7-- is the CA DREAM Act Kick-off, starting right here in San Diego!!!

(and Esteban is our high school liaison)

There will be a lighting ceremony, with the light and the CA DREAM Act campaign then continuing on to LA, and eventually all over the state of California

We are hopeful that there will be even more allies for the CA DREAM Act (vs. the federal one), because this State Act has no "military component"

And, DREAM Teams all over are now in collaboration with the "California DREAM Network"

At the campaign kick-off, we will introduce the organizations, and CA DREAM Team Alliance (if comfortable publicizing them, as well)

The bill is expected to be on the CA state senate floor late summer, early fall

(Historically, the CA DREAM Act has been introduced around January of a year, and then Schwarzenegger would always vetoed it around September.)

** April 8 Campaign Kickoff draft agenda:

A few testimonies

Special guest to speak

Torch-lighting

Closing

Interviews with media
