Hi all,

I hope you are doing great!

I have few questions:

1. Could somebody share information (articles, presentations, anything else) about how to migrate data from a giant Cassandra cluster to ScyllaDB?
2. Could somebody share some "success stories"?

I'm interested to see economic meaning of migration, cost of migration, and other metrics which could be used as a good argument for starting such migration.

For example: "we had N servers and we used Cassandra, how we have M servers and we are using ScyllaDB, bla-bla"

Thanks!

PS I already investigate official site, and found synthetic tests (which are not interested to me), probably I didn't search well.

Hi,

There are plenty of published use cases, and in pretty much all of them the node count went down significantly. Just check the blogs at https://www.scylladb.com/category/users-blog/user-stories/

If you are interested in the actual process of migration, we recently had a webinar about methods and approaches, it is recorded at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDOesdWDT9Y

Thanks,
Dan

The youtube channel has several presentations from companies who migrated large Cassandra clusters to Scylla, with some details:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7fDHfQDRiQ9Nn0tFf33jeQ

Here is documentation about migration: https://docs.scylladb.com/operating-scylla/procedures/cassandra_to_scylla_migration_process/

The are also several blog posts about migrations, for example: https://www.scylladb.com/2019/02/07/moving-from-cassandra-to-scylla-via-apache-spark-scylla-migrator/

Vasily,

For more specific information on economic cases, I would recommend that you and I speak directly. Those of us who work directly with the customers have a lot more data on such things than the marvelous Engineers who build and maintain our product.

The links that Dan and Avi gave you were great, but it might take you hours to find what you are looking for. In addition to curating a list of specific public examples, we can also give you annonymized examples for our users and customers that we cannot publicly disclose due to NDA.

I will send an email to you directly, so as not to bother the whole list with these examples that might only be specific to you.

Greg
