some basic question on migrating from cassandra to ScyllaDB.

Hi,

I have some question regarding migration current cluster (Cassandra) to ScyllaDB.

- Could ScyllaDB be part of the cluster to we could have data sync up from Cassandra to ScyllaDB?

- Do we have to change our current client application which is cassandra when we migrate to ScyllaDB?

This is called "mixed cluster".  It is not supported; the internal protocols used by Cassandra and Scylla are different.  Scylla and Cassandra use the same sstable file format, so you can migrate your data, albeit with some downtime.

- Do we have to change our current client application which is cassandra when we migrate to ScyllaDB?

No, the external protocols and query language are identical, so you can continue to use your existing application, drivers, and sstables.

I see... currently we use hector and moving to Astyanax in this case, scylladb will support our clients....

We will need to change our client to using dual write, if we migrate to scylladb...  Correct?

Yes, that is the common strategy during migration.  Dual write and sometimes dual reads + compare.

Note that Astyanax only support Thrift, not CQL, and Scylla currently only support CQL.

May I ask why are you moving to the soon to be retired Astyanax?
