"Computer, Locate Ms Sanders," Naya asked as she left her offices, having
just taken a look at some of her work spaces.
"Ms Sanders is currently in the Arboretum." Arboretum, Naya though, nice
touch. Many ships she had worked on were limited to hydroponic gardens, but
Naya thought back to the Scylax and its many diplomatic and more luxurious
accommodations
[Arboretum]
Rebecka was working in the arboretum tending the garden again. Some of the
vegetables were ready for harvest and she was gathering them to take them to
Kaarg. She was adding fertilizer and plant food to keep them healthy and
continuing to grow.
Naya stepped into the arboretum and smiled; it was rather like the botanical
gardens outside the Trill University. Picking up one of the baskets Naya
nelt down near the plants. "Need a hand?"
Rebecka turned and noticed the uniform and pips, "Hello and I can always
use a hand.
This is one of my favorite parts of the job." she said with a smile.
Wiping her hand on
her jeans she held out a hand, "Rebecka Sanders, welcome aboard Lieutenant."
Naya smiled and shook her hand. "You can me Naya if you like, when we're not
doing anything official." Naya picked up a trowel and began to dig around
for the rooted vegetables. "My mother used to love gardening. I used to help
her plant all the time. We had the largest garden in the neighborhood." Naya
dug out a huge tuber, and placed it into the basket. "Its sort of
therapeutic to have my hands in the dirt," she smiled. "Commander Leek left
a good report on you. Even though he wasn't here for long he seemed to think
highly of you." She began to dig out another tuber. "So, tell me a little
about yourself."
"I finished high school by the time I was 16 and started studying science.
I'm one of the few humans
that was able to pass the exam to get into the Vulcan science university so
needless to say I speak
fluent Vulcan and can turn emotions "off" if I choose to though I find
emotions make us who we are."
Becka continued to pick the veggetables. "I play the guitar and violin and
try my hand at other instruments and am currently studying use of the
Bat'leth."
she paused and looked toward Naya, "I think that about covers me so what
about you?" she asked with a grin.
"Vulcan Science University, very nice. I don't know how you could stand it
though, all those dour Vulcans," she laughed. "Well, I actually attended the
Trill University under the Science Ministry at a young age myself. My
parents were intent on having a child join the symbiosis program so there
was a lot of push to succeed. I graduated from there when I was about 20,
then entered the Symbiosis program. Unfortunately, I was dealing with
personal issues and trying to find myself so I dropped and joined
Starfleet. I graduated from Starfleet Academy in two years on transfer
credit and then became an engineer." Naya moved down the line, heading
toward the tomatoes. "I was an engineer for four years, then for my first
department head tour, on the Lancelot. Our Captain was a joined Trill, Edron
Drasil, and as luck would have it, on a covert mission by 14th Command, he
was mortally injured and I had to take the symbiont. I tried so hard to run
away from the Symbiosis program, but it followed me anyway. That was a
year ago, and since then I returned to Trill to finish my training, and
touch up on my science background, so I could persue some of my earlier
science interests." She began placing the tomatoes in the basket.
"I'm still exploring some of my leisure activities, as I seemed to import
some of them from my previous hosts, but in general I enjoy water sports and
martial arts. Bat'leth eh? I've never done Klingon martial arts, though my
last host dabbled a bit. Perhaps some time I'll take you up on some
sparing."
"That sounds fun Kaarg our mess manager is helping me train." She paused a
moment,
"I didn't realize I had made such a good impression on Commander Leek I was
just doing
what I trained to do." Rebecka grabbed some green leaves and gave a pull
bringing up a
nice fat carrot.
"How on earth did you end up with a Klingon cook?" She shook her head,
wondering, "what house is Kaarg by the way?" Naya asked
Rebecka paused a moment and blushed as much time as she had spent with Kaarg
she should know the answer to that question, "We've never really talked
about it so I'm not sure."
"Not talk about his house? How very un-Klingon. My last host worked with a
group of Klingons during the Dominion War running joint-covert ops. I
remember them never shutting up about their houses and their exploits! And
the food...not really for me. Hopefully Kaarg makes things other then gagh."
She laughed. "I look forward to meeting him." Naya idly wondered if Edron
had worked with any of his House. One again, Naya wondered what issues would
come about from Edron's past associations. She knew the rules.
"So...what do you think of the other crew?" Naya asked
"I'm still getting to know them really I've mainly gotten to know
the science department and Kaarg. I've spent some time with Dr. Hart but
he's been a bit busy lately and I haven't seen much of him. As a whole
though
it seems to be a great crew that works well together." Becka smiled.
Looking at Naya she asked, "So have any of your previous host liked music?
I play both classical violin as well as what my dad liked to call 'the
fiddle'" she said with a laugh.
"Yes, actually, my first host loved music. He played what I suppose would be
the rough analogue of the terran piano and flute. I myself learned a few
Trill instruments a child, but I haven't played in years," Naya said.
Rebecka smiled, "I've been trying to learn the flute but my favorite
instruments are still the violin and guitar."
Naya smiled, "Perhaps we can get some sort of musical composition group
together."
"That could be fun send a notice out to anyone who enjoys playing an
Instrument is welcome to join." Becka smiled, "I think we will work well
together."
Naya returned the smile, and the two women continued to harvest the
vegetables.
