[Holodeck - SB517]
<< OOC: This happens before Kaarg's interrogation >>
Rebecka was in the holodeck with her Batleth again. She had not injured
herself since the last time Kaarg had found her practicing. She was up
to level five and so far not missing a beat. Sweat was rolling down her
face, she hadn't been able to find Nathan and was hoping everything was
all right so she had come here instead to get some exercise and have
some fun as well.
Kaarg had headed up to one of the holodecks to train. He was still
livid after the 'theft' of some of his equipment and had advised those
as needed to know that he needed a replacement. What also suprised him
was that none of his other belongings had been stolen, just the
communicator. Did the Captain really think him stupid enough to use it
in Romulan Space? Or was the whole reason for him being allowed on the
away mission so they could turn over his quarters? Why was nothing else
taken? He activated his program absently and when the computer told him
that the training program was already in use at level 5, he asked who
was inside. He smiled when he fould out it was his newest student in
the bat'leth. Without another word, he entered, drawing paired knives
that he had started to favour and waded in beside his friend.
"Afternoon, Ms Sanders, Mind if I play too?"
Rebecka attacted the on coming enemy and gave a glance toward Kaarg,
"Don't mind at all, in fact." She attacted another enemy and watched him
fall, "I'd enjoy the company."
Kaarg nodded, absently flipping the knife in his left hand before
Snapping That arm out to his side, stabbing a holo-enemy in the face
without so much as breaking strike. Kaarg made it look easy, though he
was very aware of his surroundings. Just as in a real battle, he never
underestimated his foes or his surroundings. "You have improved," he
stated as they fought side by side. "Watch your balance though, retain
your centre or you can be put down."
Rebecka nodded and and adjusted her stance slightly as she moved in to
Take Out the next enemy just as the computer beeped indicating the
Program had moved up to level 6. "How was it to go on an away mission?"
Becka asked.
Kaarg parried an incoming attack, arm to arm, and quickly stepped
forward, gutting his oponent. This was still a very easy level for the
seasoned warrior, but part of his attention was on Ms Sanders, who was
unused to prolonged battles against opponents that got progressively
better and learned as you fought them. "keep your arms close when you
defend, don't over extend or you'll get gutted like a fish." Bat'leth
to bat'leth was one thing. It usually relied on over extending, if for
no other reason than you could slide the lower end round and jab a spike
into your opponents face if they stayed too close to their body. "As
for away missions? They are necessary." He wasn't sure what the young
Human meant by her question. It was simply a matter of duty and
necessity.
Becka adjusted her stance again as she took out the next apponent, "I
understand that, I just thought it might be more interesting than having
to stay on the ship all the time." The next opponent took her a little
longer but she finally took him down, "Though I do like the adventure of
being on a ship better than being on a colony."
Kaarg nodded as he deftly disarmed a foe by slicing across his knuckles,
making the holo-opponent pull his hands back in pain. Kaarg took the
opening and jabbed a knife up through the opponents chin, into his
brain. "Interesting is one word for that last one, Ms Sanders. It was
definitely.... interesting." He turned to face his next opponent. In
another level or two, the system would start throwing multiple opponents
at each of them.
"Freeze program." Rebecka called out then looked at Kaarg, "Do you ever
do anything else for fun? I've been feeling a bit lonely lately." She
wiped the sweat from her brow.
Kaarg stopped, his dagger embedded in the face of his opponent, who just
stood there, frozen. "My mate always loved Opera," he said with a wry
smile. "Other than that, I continue as I must until the day I fall to
either blade or phaser. I train hard so I can complete the tasks I must
complete before that happens." Kaarg was not a social animal in any way,
shape or form. "Loneliness only comes from the longing to something
that cannot be. My mate and son are dead, so I am lonely for her and
him. Your friend, Nathan, is busy and unavailable to you, so you are
lonely for him." Kaarg didn't really know what to say. In all his
life, only Graal had seemed to understand him and accept him as he was,
all pretences of machismo aside. That's not to say that he became a
blubbering wreck at any point, but she allowed him his gentleness and
kindness as well as the brutality that was a Klingon Warrior's path. He
looked at Becky and silently shrugged.
"I love to play the violin and guitar I've also tried the flute."
Rebecka
sighed, "I guess I could do that you're welcome to listen sometime if
you like." She needed a friend more than ever with the holidays
approaching and even though she knew they meant nothing to Kaarg she did
consider him a friend.
Kaarg regarded Becka a moment, withdrawing his knife from his opponent's
face. "I'll listen, if you would like me to," he shrugged. He realised
something wasn't right. Becka wasn't Becka. "What's wrong?" he asked
finally.
She shrugged, "Just feeling extra lonely with the holidays approaching.
Missing my family. I just didn't want to bother you with it because I
know you don't celebrate Christmas."
Kaarg looked at Becka, "We may not celebrate your Christmas, but
traditions and rites of honour are strictly followed and adhered to in
our culture. Family is always important. Our society's structure is
mainly based on your family honour. If you are lonely, seek out someone
who can be there through whatever trials you must face for this
'Christmas'. Kaarg clearly had no clue what Christmas was.
Rebecka laughed, "Christmas doesn't have trials. For some it is the
celebration of the birth of thier savior in many religious circles and a
time to get together with friends and family and exchange gifts and
reflect on things from the last year. Though a lot of people have
forgotten why Christmas was started so long ago and its just a time for
family and friends
to get together and exchange gifts." Then she paused, "I guess if you
go back to its roots though the mother of the saviour went through many
trials before his birth." Becka added with a smile.
Kaarg regarded Becky, "Oh? Do you follow the religious beliefs or the
personal beliefs of this time?" Kaarg asked.
"I practice more the religious beliefs. The story of the savior's birth
is
one that in order to believe you simply have to have faith. Many find
it
hard to believe it and therefore celebrate for different reasons. But
to me
by missing the reason behind it they miss a lot of the happiness that
comes
with it and miss the hope that believing in it brings." she tried to
explain.
Kaarg nodded, "Each to their own, I suppose. For us, we live, we fight,
we die. If we die in glorious battle, then we will rejoin our ancestors
in the great halls. If we do not. Unless we have someone willing to
pay the price, we do not end up there." Kaarg's face became sombre as
he thought back to his trials after his mother's death. He looked at
Becky, "so what do you need to celebrate this Christmas of yours?"
"Some kind of evergreen tree usually a pine or cedar, lights and
decorations. Some of the funnest times I had was when we would make
homemade decorations, we would string popcorn and make paper snowflakes.
I also need to make some of my mom's Christmas sugar cookies."
Kaarg had no clue what Becky was on about, but he filed it away for
future reference and research.
"Then again the tree and decorations aren't as important as remembering
the reason behind the season." Becky let out a sigh, "I'm sorry I kind
of destroyed the fighting mood. You want to go do something fun
somewhere?" she asked.
Kaarg shrugged. He was Klingon, he would fight anything, anytime, but
said, "like what?" He wondered what Humans did for fun.
"I was hoping you had an idea," she laughed, "We could always find a bar
and share some blood wine," she added with a grin.
Kaarg nodded. "Sounds like a plan. Meet you later? I only just
started my work out, so should actually at least work up a sweat before
replacing that lost water with bloodwine!"
Rebecka nodded and smiled and headed out in search of a shower and some
Christmas decorations.
She turned to leave she heard Kaarg increase the level of the program and
restart just as the doors to the holo-deck closed.
