    SCU scored high marks in the STARS program, the nation’s first comprehensive sustainability rating system for colleges and universities. STARS, developed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), stands for Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System.     Comida and Conversation

    Comida and Conversation is the newest installment in the long list of Santa Clara Arrupe placements. One native English speaker partners with a native Spanish speaker from the Alma Community in San Jose. After a family-style dinner, peppered with vegetables from area Bronco Urban Gardens, partners speak in Spanish for thirty minutes and in English for thirty minutes.

    Living Green in the Neighborhood

    Living Green in the Neighborhood, SCU's first sustainable living program for off-campus houses, is underway! Six houses have registered for the program in its inaugural quarter. Co-sponsored by Associated Student Government, Living Green recognizes off-campus students are in a unique position to make sustainable choices in their homes, and that their decisions can influence peers, as well as become lifelong habits.

Few classes offered at SCU require sorting through trash on a Friday afternoon. However, twice this quarter, an army of students in hazmat suits marched to the Facilities yard to sort through trash from the Leavey, Loyola, and O'Connor buildings to collect data on SCU's current waste habits.
