Can you tell me more about your environment? Operating system and PHP version would be helpful.

I see someone using Composer had a similar type of error. It looks like it was maybe something wrong w/ ionCube? https://github.com/composer/composer/issues/395#issuecomment-4345335

Sadly the Silex docs no longer talk about phar stuff so those links won't work. However, you might check to see if ionCube extension is installed and if so, try to disable it and see if that works?
