Hi Doug & AJ,
I've been reflecting on our fundraising mandate since our call this morning. While Leo may turn to us in an advisory capacity for fund development, I'd like to reassert that we turn our attention to a subcommittee funding plan in support, as you suggest Doug, of underfunded participants. In reviewing the Leo case for support, I recommend these discrete actions:
1. Develop a mini plan for raising $36,000 in sponsorships and individual donations to support underfunded participants
2. Raise a minimum of $6,000 between Nov 1 and Jan 15 so that 12 people can benefit from $500 each to help defray the cost of travel and accommodations for the next in-person meeting.
3. Craft a conflict of interest statement (perhaps limiting the amount of contribution from a single source).
4. Develop guidelines for determining to whom the funds are distributed.
5. Write a case for support with sponsorship levels.
Sponsorships and individual donations might also be raised to assist with observer participation, or even meeting facility support. I envision setting sponsorship levels. For instance:
$3,000 sends one underfunded Standards Committee Member to two meetings per year for three years.
$2,500 helps bring 25 observers (vital to ensuring transparency) to each Standards Committee meeting.
Let me know your thoughts, or as time is scarce, we can make this a priority agenda item for our Nov. meeting.
Thanks, Annie
