Hi Amanda,

Here is the edited letter (per our last SC call), with three action items.

1. Confirm the links are still accurate.
2. Insert date for Standards Committee application (under call to action).
3. Complete the Subcommittee and subgroup attachment.

We had discussed including a fourth call to action related to fundraising. In my experience, until the appropriate mechanisms are in place to collect and track donations ear marked for underfunded participants (or any specific allocation), we cannot ensure the appropriate level of transparency.  Amanda, does Leo have a system for tracking donations for a specific application? We could put in a generic fundraising call, but those are generally less successful, and that is not the primary objective of this letter.

As I recall, Leo is going to send this out via Constant Contact so all the links are hot. We were waiting to learn the date by which Standards Committee applications are due. Is that date available? If so, are we ready to set an exact distribution date for the letter?

Thanks all around,

Annie

Thanks Annie,

I’ve been focused on S&P Writing Cell most of the last week, and your note helps refresh my focus on F&C.

I think I suggested including the fourth call to action in this letter, and some latent thinking coupled with your comment incline me to suggest we not include a fourth call to action in this letter. In this outreach effort, let’s stick with the main mission of awareness building and invitation to engage in the process.

Kind regards,

Doug

FYI,

I have been asked to speak at several potato grower and industry meetings across the country on development and implementation of national sustainability standards.  I think this is an opportunity to promote our efforts.

I welcome any feedback you may have.

I agree. This would be a great opportunity for outreach. I have provided several Committee members who have done similar outreach with a general presentation about the process, which they have then modified according to the message(s) they wish to convey. If you would be interested in seeing this, I am happy to pass along.

Hi AJ,

Indeed, and I think this speaks to another project in support of our communications mandate -- finishing up a set of key messages that people can use for a variety of purposes (e.g. presentations, media inquiries, general outreach). Would you like to work on this together?

Hi Annie,

I would certainly welcome the thoughts of the F and C and welcome your direct contributions and ideas into the presentations I will be making.   Interestingly, most groups want updates on Field to Market and Stewardship Index as well.

Hi AJ and Annie,

I would anticipate that within the next few weeks we will have documents emerging from Structure and Process Subcommittee that would be helpful to this effort. Based on the timing of your upcoming meetings it is possible that the documents would not yet benefit from formal approval by the Standards Committee and thus, should not be represented as reflective of approval or consensus. But, they would certainly inform your talks on progress to date at the Subcommittee level.

Kind regards,

Doug

When are your presentations, AJ? John Thorne (Environmental Subcommittee co-chair) and I have been talking about organizing an informational conference call/webinar between Keystone and the Stewardship Index to learn more about each other’s processes, intended outcomes, different indicators they are looking at, how to avoid duplicating efforts, etc. Depending on your timeline, we could try to schedule this sooner so that you would have information to provide to share with your audiences.
