Italic font in panel headings

Hello, 

In Confluence, we sometimes use italic font in panel headings (using an underscore before and after the text we want to italicize). 

We have set up a viewport but instead of outputting italic font, it outputs the underscores around the text. Anyone have any ideas on a workaround?
