Hello Scripture Clips group,

Thanks again for being willing to help out making this year's Scripture Clips the best possible! This ends up being a fun discussion about the (Doctrinal) Mastery scriptures and their doctrines and how this engaging activity can help the students learn, love and live them more.

Before we begin, I have a question about the Doctrinal Mastery scriptures. In the days of Scripture Mastery, any part of the scripture passage---not just the key words---was fair game to make a video about because it was expected that the students were becoming very familiar with the verses, even memorizing them. For instance, from before DM we have this video for Moroni 7:45,47-48 which refers to "not easily provoked." Click for video. Each year, I liked adding a few videos that dealt with phrases and ideas not in the keywords to reward the students who were extra familiar with the verses.

My question is: With the new Doctrinal Mastery, do we need to make videos that only refer to the keywords and main doctrine because that's what the students are making sure to know about the passage?

That's how I understand it. My class doesn't memorize anything except key words and phrases.
The problem is that we might use a different keyword or phrase than another class!

I agree.  While I would LOVE IT if they all memorized the passages still, I think the focus is on the main idea now.

Yes, I agree with just making videos that refer to keywords and main
doctrine because that is how my class is learning them.

Thank you for getting out input.

That makes sense. I’m still encouraging memorization, but not doing much of it in class. Key words and main ideas will be universal and should be recognizable by all our students.
Good thinking.

I would focus on the references and the keywords mentioned in the picture below. This is published by the church. As well as the doctrinal topic they fit under.
