I'm working on a project to transcribe a large number of handwritten records dating back to the 1800s.  One of the requirements for this project is that the transcribed text be part of the scanned pdf document.  I'm trying to determine if this is possible using Scripto and Omeka.

The Scripto user manual mentions that once the transcription work is complete then it can be imported into Omeka.  When I looked at the Omeka user manual it states, "importing a document stitches together all its page transcriptions and imports the results to the corresponding item."

So, my question is, once a document goes through the transcription process in Scripto and is imported into Omeka would the document still be text searchable outside of Omeka?  Or, is the transcribed text only usable within Scripto and Omeka?

Once the text is imported into Omeka, if that transcription field is on a public item, it should be publicly available to web search engine. And, an administrator on the Omeka site could copy the text from the item for attachment to the PDF by hand.
