Hi Thomas,

I need some help with getting the data. I'm kind of novice in programming so after reading the manual carefully, I haven't really understand how to get the data. I don't have my own server, so I have few questions regarding this:

1. Could I save the data else where on Internet?
2. The manual mentioned about using flash-dmdx, but when I open the page, it's just a blank page. What do I need to do with this, download any application or create account somewhere?
3. What is the script I should put in the application part for output?
(For example: outputURL="http://www.flash-dmdx.org/dmflashlightresults.php?test=intro&version=0.1&type=csv.append"
protocolFormatHead="%serverUploadTime% - %clientUploadTime% - %clientIP%"
protocolFormatItem="%frameID%(%itemID%);%response%;%responseTime%"
debug="true")

Thank you for your help. I would really appreciate it :)

Hi,

I don't have my own server
they way we have programmed this, you do need your own server.

1. Could I save the data else where on Internet?
it saves by giving the data to a server.

the flash-dmdx.org server is down, and will probably not come back. We use a different one at the moment, which we did not make "public", because we assumed people would have a possibility to have their own server.

so, I suggest the following: If you have a university that supports you, talk to the IT department. What you need is simply access to a server that runs PHP scripts. You need to upload a script to that server. It will receive your data, and save them for you.

If that doesn't work, you could get your own server from a webspace provider. of course that would cost something. You could also get a server in the Amazon cloud. Both requires that you learn how to run a server. Not that difficult, and if you have mastered ScriptingRT I think you should master that as well, but also not trivial. If you get your own server, we could help you setting it up.

one more alternative: I heard that people in Cologne changed the script such that it sends email rather than saving to a server. I cced Jens in this email. Jens, how does it work? Do you need to have a mail server for this?

let's see what the best alternative is...
best,
thomas

Yes, Jens and I also use a PHP script that runs on a server of our university. For some reason, the server wouldn't allow us to save files on it. We worked around that by having the PHP script email the data to us instead. I've attached it in case this is useful to you.

Cheers,
Jan

Thank you so much, Thomas and Jan. This is such a great help :) I will try with the email option first. I will also talk with the IT department of my university about this. Hope that I manage to make this work.

Have a great weekend :)

Hi again Thomas,

Now the IT department has given me a folder on the University's server. Is there anything particularly I have to set up with it? Or I just put the file that you sent me last time (in the attachment) in the folder and paste the link in the .mxml file?

Thank you so much :)
