Hi all,

Does anyone have any thoughts on how well scriptingRT might be able to handle a 300 millisecond presentation of a word stimulus? I know that there will be variability that will arise due to monitor refresh rates. The task would not require an enormous amount of precision in the presentation. Obviously, 300 ms is supra-, not sub- liminal. Any observations or thoughts would be helpful.

Hi David,

I would recommend looking at the PLOS ONE paper that was published on scriptingrt's performance:
http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0067769

In short, it has performance that is on-par with other RT packages like E-Prime/Inquisit/SuperLab.

Cheers,
Tyler

Hi Tyler,

Thank you for directing me to that paper. Fantastic set of studies.
I’ve seen it before, but didn’t think to look at it. From Study 3 the
upshot seems to be that there are numerous possible sources of noise,
that ScriptingRT may add a few dozen ms to presentation time, and that
it seems to do quite well if one is not expecting the precision
required of subliminal presentation times.

Thanks again.

Best,

David
