i haven't seen any information on the subject, but if the idea isn't being used in the simulation, i think it would be a grate improvement. i think that it should take higher amounts of energy/health for a carnivore to keep its spike extended, and less to keep the spike concealed. this would add a more realistic quality to the program by forcing creatures to whey the risk of using more energy to getting more food from the kill.

This was once considered by Andrej I believe, but it put too big a price on carnivores. I will add a settings var in my next version so as to let others play around with the idea.
