Making the browse page the homepage?

Hi there
I'm still working away on the teachers' lesson plan site. What I want
to do is to make the page which displays the whole collection of plans
the home page. At the moment, it's a sub-page caled "browse-lessons".
I've never had previous problems getting Wordpress to display a custom
frontpage.
I've tried setting the "browse base" as "main page", but it returns a
blank page (i.e. no search results).
Any ideas?
