...this makes it kind of meaningless from a user perspective such as
when attempting to paginate through the results and including a
"showing docs 1 to 10 out of 100 total" type thing.

If the total totalResultsAvailable actually includes deleted docs then
it is really not an indication of total results "available," is it??

Is there a way to really find the number of results available for a
docs.search that only includes the non-deleted docs that can actually
be found/displayed?

Hi Daryl,

You're absolutely right.  We're currently swapping out the current search back-end (built on sphinx), for a new, much better back-end built on Solr.  Once that's done, this problem will automatically go away, and search will be much faster and more relevant.  Unfortunately, the sphinx codebase is frozen while that project is going on, so I can't immediately fix this.  Hope that insight is helpful nonetheless.

Regards,
Jared

Hi Jared:

Excellent, thanks for the info... good to know that the new back-end
will fix the issue!

Thanks,
Daryl

P.S. Any time-frame for the new back-end?

P.P.S. While they're at it, might this also enable a sort order option
for retrieving docs (i.e., by date, by title, etc.)?

It appears that this may be in place now? I just noticed that
totalResultsAvailable actually seems to be the correct value now
(i.e., excluding deleted docs).

Can we assume that this will continue to be the case going forward?

Thanks,
Daryl
