Hello:

I am unable to add a shapefile to a map.

I am able to upload a zip containing a shapefile (and other assoc.
files):

Menu -> Import SHP -> Browse -> select zip (with shp, dbf, shx, prj) -
> Import

Then I go to:

Menu -> File Manager -> Files -> SHP -> whatever.shp -> Import to map

I get an error: SHP file failed. Files may be missing.

Does the projection matter? I reprojected to WGS84 to no avail, as
well.

Thanks.

I've also tried several different uploads and not gotten them to work.

Uploading *just* the .shp seems to create a folder (whatever.shp) with
file whatever.shp inside it. Clicking "import to map" then gives the
same error that aarond2 got (File failed, files may be missing).
uploading a zip with the .shp and associated files does not seem to
work at all, and doesn't create a folder or file in my file manager.
I've tried with small (one or two features) and large (as many as 1000
features), point polygon and line shapefiles, and nothing seems to
work.

I haven't tried messing around with the projections, as the machine
I'm on right now doesn't have a functioning version of ArcGIS or
whatnot, just been using .shp that I've created before.,

Has anyone gotten the .shp import to work?

Thanks,
--Yuki

Hey Yuki,

This is what we are working on right now. Currently SHP file importing
will not work because we are switching the way we handle them, before
we were extracting them all into a single directory, for obvious
reasons this is problematic, so we are making it so that SHP files
export to their own directory. Also with this support we will be
implementing KMZ support as well, this is why we are still in beta.

The other issue is with projections, WSG84 works, and so does any
coordinate system that can be readily converted to WSG84, however,
WSG84 with zones does not work. So we are trying to figure the best
way to deal with coordinate transformation, and we are also looking at
switching to another provider for tile rendering.

Thanks so much for your patience,
Jonathan

Jonathan,

Thank you for the update.

When it becomes possible to upload shapefiles, could you alert us?

Thank you,
Abijah

Yes, I will, I will also put it out on our blog. We have actually
finished the rendering of SHP files (we haven't update the production
site yet). The only reason we haven't rolled it out yet is that we are
working on speeding it up. Our new method of rendering has support for
thousands of projections.
