well, hello - i'm back from this year's
Flaherty Seminar and i'm pumped to keep freshening up the screen at the Brick House with this rare nugget of radical ethnographic cinema:
TWO LAWS (1981. 130mins) by the Borroloola Aboriginal Community with Carolyn Strachan and Alessandro Cavadini
...as it is summer & we all need to slow down, i've opted to share with you a film that i have never seen but heard much about. for many years the film was only distributed as a 16mm film print, with the film-makers insisting that the only way to watch it is projected to a public on a big screen, not at home alone - hence, why i am sharing my first time watching this DVD version with you. In the early 80's the Borroloola Aboriginal Community sought to make a film of their stories, told in their own way - which from what i've gathered, will challenge our sense of time & logic. and that excites the hell out of me.
