A number of scramblrs seem to have difficulties with the term "public
group"

1. A public group is a group that is listed in the global directory.

1.1 One could rename the term "Make group public" to: List group in
directory" or similar...

1.2 One could rename "Search public group" to "Search group directory"
or similar

Any opinions?

I think a good understanding of what functions and facilities apply to each (public and private) would be needed in order to make a useful suggestion. I don't think I have that understanding.

We actually have two concepts at work: public and shared.
Currently "make public" means both are true or both are not true.
Public means that other users can see that the group exists in Search
Groups. Shared means that other users can join the group and post under
the same terms. We anticipate that advanced or premium accounts could
toggle these attributes separately.

Michael,

Do I have this right?

Public=0 ==> Do not list in directory
Public=1 ==> List in directory

Shared=0 ==> Read only
Shared=1 ==> Read/write
