Dear Fellow Scouters,

 

I have recently been in discussions with Frank Barr the State Instructor for SIS10 Bushwalking in NSW and he has indicated to me that he is available on the weekend of the 31 August – 1 September 2013 to run a comprehensive Level 2 Bushwalking training and assessment weekend at a site that will include the competency of river crossings.

 

The location of the weekend would be in the Natai National Park around the back of Hilltop.

 

The weekend would be aimed at experienced bushwalkers and be limited to a party to include no more than ten trainees. ie Those leaders who would be able to satisfactorily demonstrate competency in the majority of the Level 2 Bushwalking competencies through their previous logged journeys however have not completed their RPL applications or do not have enough evidence to satisfy the river crossing component.

 

The take up by leaders within the region of the RPL process has been not well supported, ie since we have been promoting the RPL process and providing support through navigation exercises at Region events etc and at other SIS10 weekends, to date only 4 off leaders have submitted Bushwalking RPL applications and have been successful in being issued with Statements of Attainment even though over 30 leaders have completed the navigation RPL supporting evidence exercise.

 

By running this weekend we will then be able to run Level 1 & 2 Bushwalking training weekends locally, over and above those already calendared by State.  I have attached copies of the dates scheduled by State for your information and further promotion.

 

Could you please email back to me your thoughts on being able to participate to assist in the training with Frank over the weekend, so I can confirm and book in the date with Frank ASAP.
