This quote made me chuckle/frown: "Scouts will receive good exposure for the challenge. The contestants had Scout stickers on their helmets ... Hopefully all will be in camera shot."
I recently contacted Spelean the Australian distributor of Petzl gear regarding a replacement part for a Petzl helmet (the "pin" that holds the strap in place at the back of the helmet), and provided a photo of the helmet to assist in identifying the part.
Disappointingly I was advised two things:
1. Petzl/Spelean could not provide the part to me, rather they had to inspect the helmet themselves and would replace the part if the helmet was deemed safe (I think they offered to do this at no charge, though I expect I'd be up for postage to them)
2. the helmet had a sticker on it. They advised they would only be able to inspect the helmet if the sticker's MSDS was provided. Of course, I don't have this. They are obliged to destroy helmets that don't pass inspection.
So, if you put a sticker on the helmet, unless that sticker has a MSDS sheet (and it's indeed compatible with the helmet plastic), then you've just condemned it should it ever require official inspection.
The more you know...
