ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:
Coach Ken Fee, a nationally certified chess coach, a nationally rated player and a certified merit badge counselor, is the instructor of the Chess Merit Badge Workshop. Ken has taught numerous state and national scholastic champions, is a retired high school communication arts teacher and owner of the Kansas City Chess Club and Regal Chess School. We follow the two deep leadership requirement so we also have another certified merit badge counselor attending the virtual class at all times. Since 2012, we have awarded hundreds of merit badges!
This workshop includes scouts from all four US time zones although we have had others participate from outside the continental states. This chess merit badge workshop and tournament is 2 1/2 hours in total starting at 10 AM Central The online tournament is held during the last half hour. Scouts are required to submit the completed course worksheets and handwritten scoresheet from one of their tournament games played that day for grading and evaluation. Once all requirements have been verified, the scout will be emailed a PDF blue card for the chess merit badge or submit a request for Scoutbook entry.
