Areas of Work
As you will be aware from Circular 07/06-07, the European Scout Committee
has organised much of its work into three Areas of Work. In this and
future issues of Euro.Scout.Info, we will aim to provide you with updates
on what is happening in each Area of Work.
To help in the realisation of the Regional Scout Plan, the Open Call has
been issued for the various Groups and Units that are required. Details
are in Circular 08/06-07 and we’re looking forward to receiving a large
number of applications by Monday, 13 August 2007. Please encourage people
to apply… on time if possible, as meetings of several Groups and Units are
scheduled for September and October.

5th Lands of Adventure (LoA) Ambassadors Meeting
5 – 7 October 2007 in Dublin, Ireland
The 5th Lands of Adventure Ambassadors Meeting this year will be in
Dublin, Ireland from 5 - 7 October. For some sessions during the meeting
the Ambassadors will be split into two working groups, one for new
ambassadors and those who have recently been introduced to LoA and another
group for~ambassadors who have already established LoA in their
associations. There will also be sessions where all the ambassadors will
work together on new aspects of LoA.
During last year's meeting the LoA Day project was developed. As a result
of this a group of Ambassadors were involved in delivering the LoA Day
project on the 10 March 2007. In a similar way, it is planned that another
project will be developed during this year's meeting and a group
established to deliver this project over the following 12 months. The
official invitation and the application form will be available on the web
site in a few days.

European Portfolio
The Council of Europe lead, during the last two years, a project called
the European Portfolio for Youth Leaders and Youth Workers. The aim is
putting the recognition of non-formal learning into the spotlight through
giving youth leaders a tool to track their competences via a
self-assessment and progression scheme. As the result is a complex and
voluminous workbook, we see this as an inspiration for further development
in your own Scout association.
Later in 2007, the Adult Resource Core Group will publish a Euro.Scout.Doc
further exploring this topic of a personal development plan and its
recognition. The European Portfolio is downloadable at: [

Adult Resources Core Group
The outgoing Adult Resources Core Group met in Belgrade, Serbia, over the
weekend of 6 – 8 July. The group undertook a review of the work done over
the last three years, looking at what went well and what difficulties
occurred. Zorica Skakun from the Educational Methods Team also
participated in the meeting, as did Mark Knippenberg, previously Director,
Adult Resources. It is hoped that the review will be of use to the future
Adult Resources Group and to the Educational Methods Team more generally.
Development and Support
Growth Network Meeting
5 – 7 October 2007 in Berlin, Germany
During the last triennium the European Scout Committee gave strong
emphasis to the issue of growth. As a result, the ‘Long-Term Growth
Project’ was developed to address the need to study and evaluate the
different aspects of growth and development in Scouting to come up with
ideas on how improve the situation.
The ‘Action for Growth’ resource and report were well received at the 19th
European Scout Conference. The next step will be the creation of a Growth
Network, which is the primary reason for this meeting. NSAs across Europe
will follow-up on the critically important issues of growth and
development.

Young Leaders Workshop
14 – 17 June 2007 in Ohrid, Macedonia
The Young Leaders Workshop took place in the framework of HAJDE project
from 14-17 June 2007 at the Ohrid Scout Centre, Macedonia. 30 participants
from most of the SEE countries participated in this workshop.
The aim of the workshop was to help offer models on recruiting, training
and support, and the mobility of young leaders in NSOs. During the
workshop participants exchanged experiences regarding recruitment, as well
as training and support of young leaders in the organization. They also
discussed different ways to satisfy the needs of young leaders and how to
identify them.
At the end of the workshop it was agreed that participants will start work
on a development model for recruitment, training and support of young
leaders that will be used in all SEE organizations. This work will be done
by the participants who attended the workshop, with technical support of
the WSB-ERO, Belgrade.
Relationships and Funding
European Parliament
On Wednesday, 4 July we had our sixth meeting of European Scouting with
members of the European Parliament.
The message of the meeting was: Scouting has a particular commitment to
reaching out to marginalised and disadvantaged young people. This is
particularly true in our centenary year as demonstrated by Gifts for Peace
projects.
This was a well-timed meeting as the EU Commission is about to publish a
communication on youth policy tackling a broad range of issues from
employment to health. The lunch meeting on the 4 July provided us with the
opportunity to stress the valuable role Scouting plays in local
communities. Our relationship with the European Parliament is ongoing, so
if you would like to know how you can get involved, please contact Mike, [

Network Meeting for Guide and Scout Representatives
19 – 21 October 2007 in Vilnius, Lithuania
This is a not to be missed opportunity. The meeting is about:
- Gathering ideas and exchanging experiences of representing Guiding and
Scouting in national youth platforms;
- Promoting the agenda of Scout/Guide organisations in National Youth
Councils (NYCs);
- Building networks, finding topic specific partners;
- Sharing differing working methods of NYCs;
- Increasing understanding of Guiding and Scouting in NYCs and the
external world;
- Understanding the role of Guiding and Scouting in the development of
youth policy at national and European level, and the links between
European and national issues.
The participants for the meeting should be external representatives of
their national Scout/Guide association, e.g. to a National Youth Council
(NYC).
There is no age limit for taking part in the event but it is recommend
that associations follow the European Youth Forum’s age limit and select
participants under 35. We would particularly welcome participants from
associations who have not previously participated in a Network Meeting.
The programme will commence on Friday, 19 October at 16.00 sharp and end
at 13.00 on Sunday 21 October. If you are interested, please contact Mike:
