RoverWay 2009 held in Iceland
A very successful RoverWay 2009 took place in Iceland from July 19th to 28th. The event was attended by almost 3000 European Rovers who spent the first half of the event on journeys across the country, discovering its history and landscape.
The journeys were followed by a camp in south-western Iceland. Here participants had a chance to explore a Viking village, an international carnival, workshops and different activities and, most importantly, meet other Rovers and have fun!
For more information about the event, please visit the RoverWay website: www.roverway.is

RoverNet.eu meeting to take place in Copenhagen
The RoverNet.eu website, an online resources for European Rovers, was heavily promoted during RoverWay, gaining 500 new members. At the end of August the RoverNet.eu team will meet in Copenhagen to review the feedback received and work on the development of the website.
Keep an eye on www.RoverNet.eu for even more news and features!

“Let’s Slogo!”
The official competition for a logo and slogan for the European Year of Volunteering 2011 has been launched. The Alliance has launched the competition on www.eyv2011.eu, to call for proposals for logos and slogans.
The European Commission has entrusted civil society organisations to run the competition to choose the official logo and slogan for the upcoming European Year of Volunteering 2011. An Alliance of 21 European networks active in volunteering welcomes this opportunity to mobilise citizens and to shape the visual identity of the Year 2011 and will run the competition. The European Commission has committed itself to use the winning proposals for the European Year’s communication activities.
Twenty proposals for logos and twenty proposals for slogans will be pre-selected and sent to an official jury organised by the European Commission in November 2009. The winners will be announced on December 16 at a conference organised by the European Commission in Brussels. Proposals for logos and slogans can be sent between 17 August and 18 September 2009. The general public, as well as an online volunteers’ jury composed of volunteers active in the 21 networks, will be able to vote on this website for the best proposals.
This is the first time citizens can shape the visual identity of a European Year – a great opportunity to be seized by participating in the competition. During RoverWay, at the Althingi gathering (24-28 July), Scouts were already exercising their creativity and commitment to volunteering. More than 100 young people already suggested either a logo or slogan, or both, expressing what volunteering means to them. Most of them are volunteers themselves either as leaders, in their community or in another organisation. We believe that Scouts across Europe will seize this opportunity and will contribute their best. More information: www.eyv2011.eu

CNGEI Scouts rescue books
CNGEI Scouts, coordinated by the L'Aquila Group and university students coordinated by Legambiente were involved in the recovery of the books in the University of L'Aquila Faculty of Arts Library. The Library was housed in Palazzo Camponeschi, one of the historic buildings in the heart of L'Aquila, which was severely damaged in the earthquake of 6 April 2009. Two teams of young volunteers worked under the direction of the Librarian, Dr. Maria Elisa Equizi. The safety of the whole group was guaranteed by a team of Firemen from Bergamo who, as always, gave unstinting and valuable help in the delicate and dangerous work of recovery.
The primary task of the mission was to recover books for immediate use by university students. Thanks to the commitment and efficiency of the volunteers, more than five thousand volumes have been saved, including books on the Abruzzo and some important collections of classical authors. The Library of Palazzo Camponeschi holds 120,000 volumes. The work of recovery will continue in the weeks to come.

AstroCamps in Switzerland
On behalf of the Swiss Guide and Scout Movement in general, and our unit 3Pfadi Muur2 in particular, I would like to inform you about the AstroCamp project: www.pfadimuur.ch/astrocamp/ewindexframe.htm
For their centenary, the Scouts from Pfadi Muur have organised different modules on the topic of astronomy. One of these modules aimed at setting up facilities to establish a connection to the astronauts at ISS on the morning of 22 August 2009. We hope that this endeavour will be successful.
I think that this is a great initiative and is in full line with the international or even extra-galactic spirit of Scouting.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at aba...@pfadimuur.ch.
Thank you very much for your interest!
