UKBA arrest Gateshead college staff
The UK Border Agency has arrested a number of college staff at Gateshead, a town in Tyne and Wear, England, for facilitating immigration offences.
Five Gateshead college staff, aged 33 to 41, have been arrested after a "long and complex" investigation by UKBA. They have been accused of facilitating immigration offences.
The staff were caught coordinating morning break-in. One of them was a Bangladeshi man aged 33, two others from Pakistan, aged 37 and 41, and a Pakistani woman aged 37.
UKBA has suspended the college's licence for registering international students consequently. One of the students has also been arrested at the college because of breaching the student visa rule.
According to the UKBA spokesperson, a "substantial amount of cash" was found in a safe at the college.
The spokesperson also said UKBA officers were at the college earlier to "advise and assist any genuine students arriving for their studies."
