It's next Thursday isn't it?

I was thinking maybe we could start making some stuff. Those seattle-rb guys are always at it. Can we compete?

cheers,
Matt

Good point. Thursday 15th, or a week on Thursday, to be clear.

I'd like to make a start on DARTS:
https://github.com/mattwynne/darts @mr_urf that's the project you expressed some interest in after Steven Baker's talk at the conference.

It would be awesome to find a pair / gang to work on that with me.

Ah yeah, that'd be great! Now all I have to do is make sure that I can get down the road for it. :)

I've updated the readme. Does it make sense now?

Gets my vote. As I said after Steven's talk, I think this would make my life a lot easier, so I'd love to get involved. :)

RubyPair (http://rubypair.com/) launched the other day, and I already have some pull requests waiting for it, but I want to do more work on it (if i found a pair then everything would get very meta).

I guess we all have lots of our own projects that need work, so we could have a general session of helping each other out - though we need to make sure there is helping out and not everyone in a room coding on their own thing (i think).

Yeah, I absolutely agree.

Although I've suggested one of my own ideas, I'd be far happier to help someone with an idea of their own to launch their first gem.

Let's push some code up to https://github.com/scotrug !

Hey, would it not be more sensible to make that account an organisation - iirc, they're free if all the repos are Open Source, and it's a good way of having a link to everyone that's writing stuff from the group, and multiple people can administrate if need be.

I've been thinking about static analysis lately too. This piece got me started:

Mozilla released a project called Doctor JS, which performs static analysis on javascript. The output format is similar to ctags, so if your text editor knows how, then you can use Doctor JS output as an index for your javascript codebase. Vim has built in support for tags files, and TextMate has a bundle for it.

I was just getting used to having excellent javascript tags support when coffeescript came along and stole my heart. But Doctor JS doesn't (yet) understand coffeescript, and neither does ctags. So I wonder if there's room for a Doctor Coffee project, that would perform static analysis on coffeescript files...

This thought was rattling around in my head for some weeks before I realised that all the hard work is already done. The coffeescript compilation process generates tokens, then a syntax tree, and eventually javascript. Surely it could be hijacked into generating a tags file instead/as well.

Anyone want to join me in poking around with the internals of coffeescript to see if we can output a tags file?

So....

How about we start of with five minute pitches given by those who want to launch a ScotRUG project, then we break up into groups to kick off the projects?

These cartoons may be relevant.

http://www.agilesensei.com/blog/articles/2011/05/14/open-space-cartoons/

BTW As per Sam's suggestion, I've converted ScotRUG to an organisation on Github.

Sorry to step back a little, but reading the DARTS page got me thinking. In a similar vein, it'd be cool to track assets that you use in a web application while your cukes run (javascripts, stylesheets, images) then comparing it against your working directory to see whether you're missing files (or you've left in dirty old files from that front-end refactor you did).

We could call it PDD (Punishment Driven Development), ranging from a slap from a hulk hand for not cleaning up your assets to a hoof in the nuts from a prosthetic leg for breaking the build.

It's weird actually, was just talking about this last night and trying to remember what Deadweight was called. I knew that Ryan Bates had mentioned it in a Railscast somewhere but couldn't remember where/when. So thanks for that. :)

Anyone know if deadweight supports finding css that's *always* overridden? I've been looking for a tool for that for a while now, to help clear up css, but I don't think i've found one.

I think it would also be cool to have a CSS refactorer - kinda like looking for what's always overridden, but then it looks to see how it's overridden, and if it's always the same way, pulls those rules back down into the base class. My explanation here may not be clear, it would work better with an example:

css:
.box {
  height: 30px;
  width: 50px;
  margin: 3px;
  padding: 6px;
  background: blue;
}

.about {
  height: 100px;
  background: black;
  color: white;
}

.news {
  height: 100px;
  color: white;
}

html:
<div class="box about">About Us...</div><div class="box news">News...</div>

would refactor the css into:

.box {
  height: 100px;
  width: 50px;
  margin: 3px;
  padding: 6px;
  background: blue;
  color: white;
}

.about {
  background: black;
}

.news {
}

This would satisfy my obsessive-compulsive side, but whether it would actually be useful, i don't know.

Somewhat randomly, based on whoever popped into my head, I've made the following owner's of the ScotRUG Github org account.
