- Organisation’s Name: Scotland Malawi Twinning Link Project
- Brief description of Organisation’s work in Malawi :
The Twinning of Scottish and Malawian Clinics Project was set up to help narrow the gap in access to resources between health care professionals in the developing and the developed world. By building an on line community of ‘twinned’ clinics between Malawi and Scotland we
i) link ‘virtual’ colleagues from the computer desktop to the treatment room ii) learn from innovations in health care in both countries iii) ‘think global and act local’ in a realistic and measurable way.
We install and maintain E-mail and Internet services for Malawian health care staff to afford them the same level of access as Scottish colleagues enjoy in accessing educational materials and professional support. Upholding patient confidentiality is of paramount importance to the Project and we never include the names of patients or clinicians on this blog without their informed consent. Discussions about clinical diagnosis are not case-specific.
The Project is an entirely non-profit organisation and relies of grant-funding. Most of those involved in the Project team give their time and commitment for free.
The new Project Strategy Document is now available to download. It was drafted in partnership between the Project and Malawi College of Health Sciences in Zomba.

From: Maeghan <mae...@scotland-malawipartnership.org> Subject: Upcoming Malawi-Health Event: Scotland Malawi Partnership To: "Maeghan" <mae...@scotland-malawipartnership.org> Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 8:27 AM
I hope that my message finds you well. To begin, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Maeghan Ray, and I am currently working as a Health Project Officer with the Scotland Malawi Partnership. In upcoming months, the Partnership will be sponsoring a health workshop which will focus on key topics related to health challenges faced in Malawi .
Through the event, we are hoping to create strategic networking connections between groups who are currently engaged in health-related activities in Malawi . Specifically, we are hoping to create a comprehensive list of contacts which event participants can use to improve the effectiveness of their health-related activities in Malawi , share learnings between groups, and identify current gaps in service provision. To assist this process please could I ask that you complete the below quick questionnaire about your work and email your reply back to me:
-
Separately, I would like to also take this opportunity to bring the below upcoming events/opportunities to your attention:
(1) Lawrence Yobe visit, 19th – 20th March:
Lawrence Yobe of CHAM Hospital in Malawi is taking over as the Malawi in-country coordinator for THET (Tropical Health and Education Trust) and, as part of his induction to UK-Malawi health links, he will be visiting Scotland on the 19th and 20th March. The Scotland Malawi Partnership with THET are coordinating this brief visit to Scotland and we are keen that Lawrence meets as many of the key health stakeholders as possible. If you would like to arrange a meeting with Lawrence on the 19th or 20th March please contact mae...@scotland-malawipartnership.org. Lawrence will be attending the below event with Mike Gondwe on the 20th March.
(2) Mike Gondwe event: How Culture can Impact on Health in Malawi , 20th March:
The Scotland Malawi Partnership is proud to host an open lecture with Mike Gondwe on the 20th March in which Mr Gondwe will be speaking about how culture can impact on health in Malawi (with specific regards to HIV/AIDS and malaria). For full information see the attached flyer.
(3) Father Francis Kachere event, 16th April:
Father Francis is a Roman Catholic priest in his late 30’s who lives in the south of Malawi in Southern Africa . His parish of Utale 2 is in the Liwonde district of Malawi, and it comprises a large, modern church, a small health clinic which includes a modest maternity unit and a community of over 45 leprosy patients. This is in fact the last remaining “leper colony” in the whole of Malawi . The SMP will be co-hosting an event with Father Francis on the 16th April (7.30pm, St Augustine’s Church, Edinburgh) and is looking for other speakers/contributors for this event – perhaps organisations or individuals who have worked with leprosy or related illnesses in Malawi.
Please do not hesitate to contact me about any of the above.
Kindest,
Maeghan
