I was logging my CPD the other day and was dismayed to see there is no longer any explicit field for service to the profession. I understand I can still log service to the profession as CPD but that I need to demonstrate a learning outcome and be prepared for this to be challenged as part of any audit.
I find this very frustrating. I devote a considerable amount of time every year to the profession: the 11 hours of working party meetings and other service I logged in my CPD record was a significant underestimate of how much time I spent on profession business (I spent at least three times as much on a joint venture survey with ORIC which fell through and which I did not count). The least the profession can do is to allow some of this to count towards my CPD requirements without me worrying about whether it will pass muster as part of an audit. I appreciate that not all my CPD can come from this source, but what was wrong with the old arrangement of allowing up to 8 hours to count ?
To my mind, this shows a lack of consideration for volunteers by the profession. I am seriously considering cutting back on the time spent volunteering for the profession.
PS How can you tell how many hours people have spent on service to the profession if there is no longer an explicit field for this in CPD records ? It strikes me a retrograde step to lose this MI.
