My great grandparents were crofters in Sutherland. It was abandoned in
the late 1920's when my widowed great grandmother came to live with my
Grandmother in Edinburgh.
The roof of the Croft long ago caved in but but most of the walls still
stand. The ground is fenced off and is sometimes used by another Crofter
to graze his sheep.
Who actually owns the freehold of Crofts and are abandoned ones up for
grabs? The Barn of one I used to stay at during Summer holidays as a
child has had work done on it and is evidently used by someonein the
summer as is another nearby one.
