Summary: This position will be responsible for migrating hundreds of physical and virtual Windows servers using obsolete Windows 2000 and 2003 OS versions and their associated applications to a VMware ESX 5.x environment running the latest Windows 2008 R2 and 2012 OS versions. The successful candidate will have experience with driver and application software issues that accompany this change in OS version and conversion to the VMware virtual environment. All candidates must have strong knowledge of Windows Server 2012 beta capabilities. Experience in the use of Microsoft advanced system management tools is preferred because this migration will rely heavily on automated systems to assist with initial system migration and ongoing patch and update management for virtual machines. Use of Powershell or similar scripting frameworks is also preferred to assist with the automated installation of applications as a way to migrate them and keep them current.

Education/Experience
o Bachelors degree and 5 years experience or equivalent 8-10 years experience required

o Ability to interact with managed service providers and use change management ticketing systems.

o Windows Server 2012 beta familiarity to an advanced level.
o Windows Server 2000, 2003, and 2008 administration to an advanced level.
o Windows SQL Server administration to an moderate level.
o Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technology.

o Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills (Required)
o Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time (Required)
o Strong ability to troubleshoot advanced problems using vendor, peer, and Internet support resources (Required)
o Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software as it related to LAN/WAN (Required)

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
o Build Windows 2012 server resources using beta and initial release software
o Migrate existing Windows physical and virtual machines from obsolete versions to current versions
o Identify and solve compatibility issues with device drivers, application functionality, and database connectivity resulting from version upgrades
o Coordinate solutions with multiple commercial of the shelf software vendors
o Build and maintain Windows and SQL Server infrastructure in support of a mission-critical applications
o Direct managed service provider to perform migrations in an isolated virtual environment, perform data backups and disaster recovery operations, and diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems
