A book comes to you at the right time when you need it. Since this year, I have been picking up more books from the spiritual genre and Swami Rama's "Living with the Himalayan masters" caught my attention.

It is an interesting collection of anecdotes and life stories that Swami Rama experienced in his spiritual life in the Himalayas. A fascinating read, that covers a wide range of topics ranging from Karma, spiritual path, enlightenment, power of the mind, Yoga, universal connections, etc. Each chapter is dealt with independently and this helped me to read and absorb the book slowly. Though the underlying messages are profound, Swami Rama has explained them in simple terms using his experiences, stories, and relatable characters.

"It is important to make one's life creative and helpful, but before doing so one should make contact with own potentials deep within by disciplining himself and gaining control over his mind, speech and action"

I found answers to many questions that were lingering on my mind. I'm sure this book would appeal to people who are on the quest to understand the meaning of life, death, and our experiences. And the takeaways are completely dependent on the reader's search.

Spiritual books, especially those of an autobiographical nature, often give the impression that the experiences and spiritual achievements of the masters are beyond our reach. Swamiji, however, puts miracles and mysticism in an entirely different light. Reading it, we feel that he is one of us. He is a young boy, full of mischief. He is a teenager, full of curiosity and adventurous zeal. He is a seeker, with certain strengths and weaknesses. Just like us, he sometimes fails to distingusih the fakes from genuine masters, mistaking magic for spiritual achievement. At one time, for example, attracted by the magical power and glamorous life of sorcerers and low-grade tantrics, he even considers abandoning his master for another teacher. His human traits are so familiar to us that in reading about them his journey becomes our journey.

One point though: Swami Sivananda has many books, of unbelievable depth and competence. E. g: The Science of Pranayama, Kundalini Yoga, The Practise of Meditation etc etc. He has many other books, which you can read
online from the Divine Life Society.

I am here just with the same question, I have read tons of yoga related books, and now I am looking for more. I am also a true fan of Kindle and even their kindle customer service , so that I am searching for some nice electronic books, too. I would be grateful for every recommendation.

The tradition of Nepal Kumari goddess in Nepal probably began in the Malla period in the 17th century, particularly by the last king of the Malla dynasty, Jay Prakash Malla. There are a couple of legends that hint at the origin of Kumari culture. In due course, Shah King firmly followed the tradition of receiving blessings from her.

According to the first legend, Goddess Taleju in the human form would come to the chamber of king Jay Prakash Malla in the palace and play a game called Tripasa with him. The Goddess was there to help him and to protect the kingdom. She was there to see only the king.

Once the wife of the king came to the chamber to see who the king was sitting within her absence and saw the Goddess Taleju. Being angry, the Goddess disappeared. Later, she said to the king that if he wants her to protect the country, he should search for her in the Newar Shakya community.

The second legend is quite unclear whether it si about Jay Prakash Malla or someone else. As the Goddess and the king were playing Tripasa together, the king showed a kind of lusty behavior to the Goddess. The furious Goddess is then believed to be disappeared.

The moment the existed Nepal living goddess Kumari becomes ineligible, the search for new Kumari begins. There are some criteria for candidates need to meet to be the Nepal living goddess Kumari. Some of the basic criteria are given below:

Ensuring the basic physical qualities, the girl is taken to the courtyard of Taleju temple where she has to spend a night among the slaughtered heads of buffaloes and goats and masked men without any sign of fear.

If she passes all these strict tests. She is taken for ritual cleansing of her past life and embellished with Kumari clothes, jewelry, and ornaments. And then she is put in the new house. But nowadays the modern Kumari lives with the family.

After Kumari becomes ineligible due to menstruation or any illness. Then she becomes an ordinary child and is probably sent with her parents. In the past, the former Kumari was not supposed to get married. They have the superstitious belief that the man dies soon.

The elder council of the Newar community removed her from the title claiming it was a violation of living goddess Kumari of Kathmandu tradition. Since the day of her appointment, she is not supposed to put her feet on the ground out of her residence.

My mind was becoming soft. I was not bothering to remember things. My meditation practice was at a stand still. I was not exercising. I started to notice that I was not working out so much. I was getting lazy and not doing my yoga practice. Everything was getting too hard. And when I did exercise, I would give up as soon as it became too difficult.
