The Department of Human Ecology at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers, The State University is seeking qualified applicants for a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor with expertise in social science theory and the practice of environmental, urban, and societal sustainability. Candidates with prior experience working in the private and/or public sectors are especially encouraged to apply. With an expected start date of Fall 2023, this position will contribute to the continued development, growth, and implementation of academic programs focused on Sustainability within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The successful candidate will have an initial teaching load of four to six courses per Academic Year, including teaching Introduction to Sustainability (11:374:299), Practicum in Sustainability (11:374:399), and developing and teaching other relevant courses consistent with the needs of the curriculum and their expertise. They will also be expected to further develop the existing academic Minor in Sustainability and will contribute to the scoping of a potential interdisciplinary Major in Sustainability. To this end, the successful candidate will also serve as a bridge between academia, industry, and governmental and non-governmental organizations to build new relationships and partnerships that can further refine the sustainability curriculum, ensure that students develop knowledge and skills that meet the needs of employers, and have access to relevant internship and job opportunities. Additionally, this position is expected to facilitate student engagement with sustainability in and outside the classroom and on campus. The successful candidate will also work with other faculty members to expand the capacity for collaborative academic program development in environmental, urban, and societal sustainability across the campuses and schools at Rutgers.
