The Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter Conservation Teams have organized a series of webinars for the fall on most Thursdays at noon from mid-October to early December.

Next up is Counting Climate Deaths on Thur, Oct 24 at 12:00pm hosted by the Climate Change Team -  Until we know how many people are dying due to climate disasters and who they are, government officials and policymakers can and will ignore the existential danger of climate change. Disaster-related deaths (including heat-related deaths) fall under the jurisdiction of coroners and medical examiners. Learn how and why such deaths are grossly undercounted and what can be done about it.

Speaker:
  • Christina VandePol, MD, was the first woman and first Democrat elected coroner of suburban Chester County, Pennsylvania in over two centuries. During four stormy years, she steered her office through both the opioid epidemic and the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. VandePol oversaw 5,697 death investigations and achieved national certification as a medicolegal death investigator (F-ABMDI).
  • Dr VandePol has written creative nonfiction about medicolegal death investigation for magazines and on her website (https://christinavandepol.com/) and newsletter and recently completed a memoir about her years as coroner.
