Hi all,
I am trying to install scm-manager on my ubuntu vps and dedicated server but the errors below are what I get when I run ..../scm-server/bin/scm-server from the putty shell after I download SCM-Server 1.28 (standalone) scm-server-1.28-app.zip

It is saying that it cannot find a servlet but I have tried three versions of Java and THINK I set my JAVA_HOME correctly but I get the same error on both servers and when I try to open the web with the port instructed http://myserver:8080 I get the below messages that IE cannot open the page or Firefox cannot establish a connection with the site.
I am not sure if there are some dependencies I need to download. Have you had this issue reported before and is there any help I can get on this.I am new to SCM-Manager and there isn't much documentation out there. I am very desperate and urgently needs help because I have been trying this for weeks now.
Your help is highly appreciated.

What I can tell you is that I have just downloaded the standalone server and run the script and it worked just fine. I am also under ubuntu, but this is my desktop, no vps. So the package is correct, nothing's missing.

Thank you for your reply wujek.  I am wondering what could be wrong why it just never finishes the script and I cannot access 8080 port from the web browser...I really need some help!!

Hi,
It is possible that the port 8080 is already used by another application? You could check this with the following command:

netstat -na | grep LISTEN

Hi,
The only thing I see is tcp6       0      0 :::8080                 :::*                    LISTEN which does not state that any process is listening on it. Is there a setting to set SCM-Manager to bing to this port or where do I tell it to try and use another port?

Thanks,
Delvon

Hi,
You could change the port in the conf/server-config.xml file. Search for the following line:

<SystemProperty name="jetty.port" default="8080" />

Hi,
Did you see an Exception on the command line or did you see only the message from your first post? Which port you have chosen?

I saw only the message from the first post. I have tried both 8080 and port 8181 with the same results. I tried it on a local pc and even though it gave the error in the first post about not supporting servlets, I was still able to access the SCM-Manager with port 8080 from the web browser.

I've tried everything.

The thing is that I am using ubuntu 12 dedicated server and also a ubuntu 12 vps but none of them works, both does the same thing.

I'm wondering if there is something else I was missing but I can't find out what it is.

Hi,
I've tried to reproduce your issue, but without success. I've done the following steps:

* Download and installed Ubuntu Server 12.10 Server
* Installed Java 1.7
* Download and unpack scm-manager
* Start scm-manager with scm-server/bin/scm-server

Which version of java do you use?

Sebastian
