I've used IPython now quite a few times to present Iris at conferences, workshops and meetings and I've started to play with IPython rich display hooks to make the output a little bit slicker, see attached.

Is this a feature that people would like?

If so I'll polish what I've done and push it as a GitHub PR to support rich display of coordinates and cubes.

That's quite cool, but it looks like quite a generic "class" viewer. Is it something you've thought of pushing to IPython direct?

I've always wanted to have a drill down type rich display for a cube, where you can get to actual numbers when you drill down far enough... maybe something to think about as well.

I'm so used to it the old way! I think that would be really useful. Its particularly nice for long coords etc which can take up a lot of room.
