FYI - would really want to have either a generally accepted or acceptable API or a linked data approach to make this kind of data available to all...

Then we can start iterating to improve the quality of the data and ... innovation will happen in a spontaneous way?

Bram alerted me to the discussion on this.
 
We are working with Elsevier to get a stable connection.  Usually we have article level linkage to Scopus, WoS, and GoogleScholar, as in this record,
 
We have permission from Elsevier & ThomsonReuters for this.
 
There are several other silos beyond Scopus/WoS, to which we hope also to make corresponding links, and harvest metrics/data.  Thanks to Peter Binfield of PLOS for showing us these other silos!
