Dear all,

The deadline of the ECTEL conference is coming up and we see this as a
good opportunity to submit a joint paper about the Science 2.0
infrastructure based on this:
http://www.stellarnet.eu/kmi/deliverables/20100120_stellar___d6-3.pdf
see the wiki for the ongoing discussion: http://www.stellarnet.eu/d/6/3/Home

We have already a first draft for the paper and would like to ask you
for contributions. The draft available at
http://people.kmi.open.ac.uk/ullmann/share/Sciene2infrastructure/
contains red marks on places where we anticipated you could
contribute. Please let me know if you see further chances to
contribute. I am happy to integrate them.

The working plan:
Until next Wednesday (07/04/2010), let me know if you want to
contribute and what.
Prepare the first draft of your contribution until (10/04/2010) and
send it to me.
Follows further refinement step.
We will have a FM on 14/04/2010 or 15/04/2010 to report on the latest
results and to decide if we are comfortable to submit it to the ECTEL
conference. Please fill out the following doodle to find the time for
the meeting: http://www.doodle.com/dwz8f8devg4kfyay).
Send the final version of your parts to me on Friday 16/04/2010.
Submission deadline ECTEL 18/04/2010.

Please post your comments here:

Happy Easter,

Thomas

Just a short update from Denis at the WP6 mailing list.

"I could add a paragraph discussing the "Science 2.0" usage pattern of
72 PhD candidates in TEL". See full analysis on slideshare:
http://www.slideshare.net/dgillet/doctoral-community-of-practice-in-technology-enhanced-learning-requirements

Erik and and Peter are also working on parts for the paper.

Best,

Thomas

Hi Thomas and all,

I'd love to contribute something to the paper. If I read your red annotations the right way, you'd expect a contribution to the building blocks on page 7, right? As the Mash-Up for our implementation in Paderborn differs from yours, I could contribute how Artefact-Actor-Networks use open standards in order to monitor and analyse social media content for Science 2.0. Don't know how that would fit into your building blocks concept...

Let me know how I can contribute

Hello Wolle,

I think a discussion about interoperability standards of your Artefact-
Actor-Networks, would fit quite well into the paper.

Here a bit more background information and an outline how and where I
see the fitting.

The STELLAR Science 2.0 mash-up infrastructure has the purpose to
support the practice of researchers. For this we chose a distributed
and loosely coupled infrastructure with the following building blocks:
- services (like publication feeds, APIs)
- widgets (small applications, easily integrateable in the platform
where the researchers are)
- tools (bigger applications, some of them could expose part of their
functionality as service or widget)
- a directory (by now just for widgets, but we are working on a
service and tool directory as well). The directory could be seen as
something like the programmable web directory for TEL.
The services, tools and widgets are tied together by a bunch of
interoperability standards.

The service part focus in its current implementation strongly on
publication data, but other artefacts, like Twitter, Blogs, Wikis...
could be interesting for supporting TEL researchers. Especially I see
a benefit in the combination of the artefacts with researchers and
their relation (semantics), with the goal to
- provide new services
- visualize this data for TEL researchers as widgets or tools.
to support researcher's practice.

The places of contributions could be:
- services: as part of the new development outlined here:
http://www.stellarnet.eu/d/6/3/KULDocumentation. Here would fit in the
contribution about open standards. We could for example based on this
infrastructure show more in detail the layers actors and artefacts
and their interplay with the goal of rich data used for supporting
researchers.
- tool/widget part (e.g quality metrics based on the services, social
network, finding relevant persons/contents, showing dynamics during
TEL events, trends...)

I hope this helps so far.

Thomas

Dear all,

I collected all your contributions and included them in the next
version of the paper v.0.4:
http://people.kmi.open.ac.uk/ullmann/share/Sciene2infrastructure/

It looks like that our FlashMeeting will be on Wednesday. I will wait
until tomorrow and then I will send you the details.

To prepare this FM, I would like you to go through the document and
write at least two comments about sections you did not write on. The
goal is to improve the quality of the paper. Send this comments to me
and we will use this for the discussion during our FlashMeeting this
week.

See you soon,

Thomas
