Get document state when undo colletor is off

If "editor.UndoCollection" is set to false, "editor:Modify" does not work apparently because it depends on undo state, and there is no indicator (asterisk on tabs) showing document state.
As I couldn't find a way to tell document state in such scenario, I thought to ask if it's somehow possible.

There is no support for detecting that a document has been modified with undo turned off - Scintilla can't differentiate between the initial load and subsequent modifications.
