Dear all,

SciRuby foundation has some money we can hand out as stipends for
work. The idea is to give $2,000 for work under a SciRuby mentor. Both
'student' and mentor are in this to learn things and to push Ruby
related projects forward. We want to make this a rolling program and
will look for external funds too. Companies, institutes and
individuals can donate. Key thing is that we agree a proposal is
relevant and the student promising. We will decide that on this
mailing list. Payout is on completion.

We'll need to modify the website a little bit and morph the ideas page
towards this goal. How does that sound? Who would want to be a mentor?
I am always happy to guide talented students myself. This year I am
not in GSoC as a mentor, so it is a good time to try something
different :)

Hi! Pardon me! I've been in love with ruby since the first time I learned about the language about 4 years ago, still learning and want to exploit it to work. Considering sci-ruby I would like to learn more about these associated topics through this program as a student. What do you think of my eligibility?  my github profile: https://github.com/mash-97

This is a great initiative, I myself want to contribute to Numruby/Nmatrix and fix the current issues. I started to do some contributions but due to lack of support and no prior knowledge of the low level implementation about C extension in ruby I could not do much.
I am still excited to work on these projects as student.

Hi everyone! I am an open-source enthusiast and a software engineer by profession. I had recently started learning ruby and have been an active member in this community. I have mostly worked in core python and C++ projects in the domain of AI but wish to explore projects in Ruby as well. It would be a matter of great honour for me to get the opportunity to contribute to the SciRuby foundation under the above program as a student.

Kindly have a look at my github profile for my eligibility : https://github.com/ASCcool

Great, we have 3 enthusiasts :). I suggest for each of you to take a
look at the ideas page on our wiki, and also the github issue trackers
for sciruby projects. The idea is to formulate a project proposal and
we'll see if anyone here is interested in mentoring your idea. We will
ask for some prior work in this project to show your skills. So, if
you haven't done so, see if you can fix an issue or two for one of the
existing projects and do a pull request.

This is great news. I am happy to mentor and would like to help with
the Sciruby website and organising the program.

Let's make this a rolling program :) .

Ideas are welcome!

If we could includes something like where our organization will takes some project ideas from contributors developed using our projects that would increase the number of participants as contributing to lower level stuff could be hard to do, but users can build on top our libraries. Also increasing our reach and visibility.
