Let me ask all you guys a question about how you currently use
arxiv.org - how do you search it? And can you imagine improvements to
the arxiv search?

Here's my answer:

Personally I use the "search or article-id" quick search box in the
top right, specifically using the Harrow_A method or "Harrow_A AND
Flammia_S" method of searching. I rarely use advanced search (i.e.
arxiv.org/find) . I also use google to search for arxiv articles, in
part because that works from the address bar of my browser.

I use it to search for an author from the front page... that way I know that I'm getting any papers that weren't cross-listed at q-ph. This is also easier than having to fiddle with the settings in the advanced search box. Once I have the big list of the author's papers that I'm interested in, I just use cmd-F to find a key word in the title, or a co-author, or some other distinguishing feature of the article. I also sometimes use the advanced search, but only if the "tag" that I'm using to help locate the article is some other feature. I also use the advanced search when I'm looking for articles by people like Cirac or Verstraete that publish an insane number of articles, and for which the aforementioned procedure converges slowly.

Of course I use google too. In particular, if I know the article id then I usually just put that into google, since there is a shorter keyboard sequence to do this.
