Buenas, amig@s ..
Estábamos discutiendo este tema en nuestro grupo en telegram (https://t.me/scipyla) y les comparto también por aquí.
Qué les parece si hacemos una revista informativa (bimestral o trimestral .. o puede ser menos frecuente también) sobre nuestros temas?
Podría haber espacio para:
- textos rápidos (algo semejante a lightning talk en formato texto);
- textos más grandes con imágenes;
- anúncios de la comunidad;
- y textos de patrocinadores;
- incluso podríamos tener espacio para un texto de un convidado especial.
A principio los textos podrían estar en español y portugués.
Creo que necesitaríamos de un editor y revisores.
Estaba pensando en una revista corta .. de más o menos 5 páginas.
Quizá tener un DOI para cada edición y con conteúdos CC BY-SA (o algo por el estilo). Qué les parece?
En telegram ya algunos panas ya se mostraron interesados en apoyar la idea.
Si alguien tiene más informaciones sobre el tema del registro de la revista etc ... cualquier información es más que bienvenida.

Me parece una muy buena idea. Igual yo diría que al menos para los primeros dos o cuatro fascículos tener una meta un poco menos ambiciosa y largar cada 6 meses, o cuatro como mucho (salvo que haya gente que tenga experiencia en eso).
Un DOI me parece fundamental, e inclusive sería bueno, para que sea atractivo publicar para aquellos que hacen investigación, tener un ISSN.
Igual la idea me parece muy buena y llevemosla adelante.

Gracias por los comentarios.
Sobre tener un ISSN tendríamos que analizar los pos y contras .. la idea inicial es no dejar el proceso muy burocrático y, para los académicos, ser apenas algo complementario para difusión del trabajo.
Seguimos las discusiones en github!

Sinceramente voy a ser crudo y directo: no me parece un aporte relevante.
Ya participe de la revista de Pyar y a nadie parecia importarles, Mas que nada por que escribir es dificil, y si encima no me vale ni como una comunicación. No vale la pena.
A mi me preocupa que a agosto del 2017, no tenemos fecha exacta de scipy, ni sabemos quien se va a encargar de la 2018.

La idea es algo más informativo que algo académico ...
es una manera de difundir los proyectos hechos en python relacionados con ciencia ..
incluso puede ser algo para ofrecer como publicidad para los sponsors de la conf y claro puede tener sponsors propios y que quizá pueda ser revertido a la conf.
el tema de escribir, vamos a tener poca cosa para escribir .. de hecho creo que 95% del texto será la própria comunidad que enviará el texto .. me explico ... vamos a abrir una llamada para envío de propuesta de trabajos .. y el texto enviado (seleccionado) será publicado en la revista .. y claro habrá revisores.
creo que ya tenemos unas 5 personas que quieren apoyar como revisores y 2 para ayudar con temas de organizacionales y editorial.
así como joss y python papers .. ya hay cosas más "académicas" para el tema ... la idea no es esa .. sino algo informativo, un espacio para comunicaciones de la comunidad y para patrocinadores.
y claro hacerlo en un escopo MVP ... si engordamos el proyecto no se podrá arrancarlo jamás.

es lo mismo que enviar el texto de la propuesta de charla a la conf ... el proceso será igual
y este texto será usado en la revista ... si no hay envios de texto .. no habrá la revista .. y listo
es solo un mecanismo para hacer difusión de trabajos de python científico ..
pero si nadie quiera enviar el texto .. no habrá necesidad de tener la revista :)

My 2 cents, una revista surge de una propósito común pero casi siempre
se mantiene por el impulso de una sola persona.
Las revistas científicas se mantienen en el peor de los casos por la
simple necesidad de publicar, esas son las malas revistas (muy
frecuente en latinoamérica), en las buenas hay personas motivadas en
contribuir a su área de conocimiento y a su comunidad, si hay gente
talentosa que participa en sana competencia las posibilidades son
infinitas. Esto requiere entender las motivaciones e intereses de los
participantes.
Yo creo que Juan está dando en el clavo, se puede crear una
publicación en Medium y que participe allí quien quiera, si toma
forma, existen contribuciones regulares, y hay interés de hacerla
"científica" ya se está preparado para el siguiente paso. De lo
contrario, nos evitamos el desgaste y el esfuerzo por algo que parte
de supuestos débiles.

Yo no estoy tan preocupado ahora sobre el medio de difusion .. Puede ser medium, puede ser pdf ... Lo que sea ... Eso aún vamos a discutir .. De hecho creo que ya tenemos una issue sobre rl workflow .. Allá podemos discutir el tema.
Pero reforço, la idea es que sea un espacio para los interesados hagan difusión de sus trabajos. Fortalecer el grupo y dar soporte a la conf.
Y justo estamos viendo si hay interés por parte de la comunidad .. Si no existe ese interés, no veo porque seguir con el tema ... Pero de los pocos que comentaron, hay más comentarios positivos que negativos.
