Hi all,

I've been now suffering with SS for about a year and a half. I'm a
male in my forties.

I keep a diary of my episodes and find that after an erratic/
unpredictable start, I'm down to an episode about every 2 weeks. I'm
still trying to find if anything dietary is the cause, and have found
white wine to be particularly suspect, though having cut-out white
wine, the ss continues. Next it's gonna be chocolate that I cut-out.

I don't get an unbearable headache after the ss, but the ss itself I
find debilitating.

Today, the nightmare scenario occured, and 2 minutes before I had to
do an important customer presentation at work, a little bright dot
appeared in my vision. I though "Oh no, here we go". I really got into
a panic about this and had to call my boss, to ask him to step in and
take over. I found this very embarassing, as I'm not sure other people
understand the severity of the condition and might think I'm just
whimping out.

I'm really interested in hearing about other people's experiences of
ss and how you've coped with it in inappropriate situations like this.

I have to say that fear of attack is now a factor for me, especially
when I'm in public speaking/work situations.

Best regards

Chris

I can understand your situation. It's disconcerting to feel helpless.
It's also a bit odd when the SS is gone 100% and leaves no residual
effects. You are not wimping out ! You don't want to cause trouble.
Imagine being a concert pianist, or watch repairman, driver,
or...brain surgeon ! Better safe than sorry. I used to get severe
migraines with NO aura. After the menopause, I developed the auras.
Never a headache, now. I will take the SS. I have warned people. Most
of mine come in summer. I had 2 last week, however. I have blamed
light waves, food, stress. They show up when they are ready. Best of
luck with your solution. Zig

I've had several instances where I had to attend meetings and
presentations during an episode. It's very distracting. For one thing
I'm totally afraid to move during the SS as I'm practically blind for
several minutes. My symptoms also include facial hallucinations that
are very hard to ignore. I was simply incabable of participating in
the meeting in any meaningful manner. In retrospect, I wish I had just
sat them out.
