Hello again all, as usual I am typing mid-aura...story of my life it seems!

Just to recap, 40 year old male, healthy, no medical history.

I've been ill with a flu virus for about the last week and a half and at the advisement of friends and family i got onto a BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) diet to try and get better.
Fortunately I am getting better now, but about 2 days ago I awoke early (4 or 5am) and was checking some things on my computer while squinting fairly hard, giving myself a Scintillating scotoma episode.
Since then I have been having them in clusters every day since, sometimes just 1, sometimes 2.  I usually try to drink some coke to help them go away faster.

Here is my question, does anyone think it was the recent intake of bananas that may of lead to this?  I'd heard they can cause migraines and I've not had them for years, I suspected I may get SS's while eating them, but I needed to get over this flu, and so went ahead and ate alot anyway.
Normally, I can be on my computer in the mornings several hours, taking time away from it for the majority of the afternoon, then be back on it much of the evening again for days and days and not get a SS attack.
I've since stopped eating bananas, being on the mend now and eating more solid food.  I wonder how long it will take before these clusters stop, so I can use my computer as usual again.. and how long it will take for all these bananas to get out of my system.

I appreciate any advice or comments, please feel free to leave them.

-Jesse

The first time I ever experienced ss was shortly after a bout of severe flu.  Ever since then, I have suspected that it was the flu virus that set it off.  I experienced them almost daily for the first few months after the flu, and frequently for a year.  Now, only occasionally.

Starting to think more and more it's tyramine that is causing (or a big part of causing) my SS.  I bought some dried pineapples the other day and had 3 or 4 slices yesterday.  Awoke this morning with that "did I have an SS?" feeling.  I checked a few computer things needing a close eye, then went for my morning walk...bingo, SS on the way home from sun glare, albeit a very short and small one.  Apparently dried pineapple has a good bit of tyramine in it that I didn't know.
Add that to my growing list of "don't eat", including: bananas, MSG, wine, aged cheese, and now some dried fruit...ect.

It really sounds like your ss comes from glare and diet. I'm also curious how much sleep you get on average? Would you say you are generally stressed? And water, do you drink enough? How's your weight? I don't get ss much anymore but even now out of fear of having the migraines again I don't drink red wine, avoid aged cheeses, etc. I have recently started eating bananas and peanuts again which I had avoided for a long time and I haven't felt any symptoms as a result. Even though it's literally been years since I've been feeling better I'm so fearful that it hasn't quite sunk in yet. I would definitely caution you on the coke though, which you mentioned in another thread. Caffeine is one of the top culprits for migraines so maybe try avoiding it for a few months. It's interesting, during an ss episode a coke can help but from what I've read it actually causes a "rebound" effect where they'll come back worse at a later time. You might feel like crap for a bit from the withdrawal if you decide to get off it but then your energy level will come back. Worth a try.

I get around 6 or 7 hours of sleep generally, 40 years old and in decent shape, fairly low stress.
I may have to knock off the caffeine and drink more water.
My folks were here visiting all week, so I had alot kess monitor time which I think helps.
