Hi all ^.^
I'm trying to take my SS more in stride, have a whopper right now but it's nearing the outer edges of my vision.
I have been avoiding alot of sugar lately and just drinking water, and no soda.
Today I am at my friends and he has 2 fairly bright monitors we're both looking at off and on thru the day.
We had vietnamese pho noodles for lunch and some cookies and salty tater tots in the afternoon for a snack.
I was reading some small font on my cell phone when I noticed the tiny zigzags begin.

So what I'm wondering is if any of my episodes are food related at all, or if I could eat whatever and minimize my computer/screen time.
Or if food/dehydration is part of a bigger eventual SS episode with monitors being the final trigger.

Would be nice to also know peoples treatment of their SS, I've tried the breathing, water, gatorade, eating, and such with small success.

Take care all, god bless

Here is the book I mentioned earlier, worth a look:

Yea, pho seems to be a trigger for me also. Maybe the MSG?

So I think more and more my SS's are eyestrain, or that eyestrain is a trigger.

Today I had a large soda and not much water, I was working with some craft projects and soldering wiring, all of which requiring alot of deep eye focus.
The soldering iron has a VERY bright light on it that did kinda "zap" me when I first turned it on, I had an SS a while afterwards, only noticing it about half way thru it's cycle, as I was very focused on my project.

I am very curious if I would of had the SS attack if I hadn't drunk any soda today, been possibly dehydrated, or had that bright light get me in the eyes.
I do hope it a few triggers rather than just eye focus/strain on a project..  I'd rather not be having SS everytime I work on a project >.<

Interestingly enough too, I've been looking at rather bright lights, screens, even LED lights over the last couple of weeks without any SS happening.

Anyone else notice SS with eyestrain?  Specifically deep focus rather than a bright light or sunglare..ect... perhaps having had something sugary or being dehydrated at the same time?

Thanks all, god bless =)  -Jesse

One of things I have learned to do it not have any msg whatsoever, no additives of any sort.  I would suggest that you have your neck looked at in particular the atlas & axis, if mine goes out of balance I cope a brilliant SS.  :)

Hi there
I think that for me there was a combination of issues getting SS,  what I know was that it does have something to do with my neck, if I get tension in the muscles then one comes on.  I do agree about computer screens they appear to help kick off a SS but I think one is already on the way, the optic nerve or something like that seems to be trigged into a full ss from certain light or radiation possibly.  Still I find that MSG is most defo a major factor, it can take two days or over night & then a SS hits me.  Yes to water, I drink a fair bit to try and flush out the msg.   I also made contact with a healer from India a long time friend as I had 5 ss's in one day, at the end of my mind I wrote him in a plea for assistance.  Within 20 minutes I was fine, whatever he did worked, since then I have had maybe two over the last 6 months.  It's hell as I use to live in fear of having these so often.

I am a 37 year old white male. I began having SS when I was about 25. I typically have several episodes every year. They are generally the "classic" aura symptoms (blind spot followed by the formation of the c-shaped aura which slowly grows and exits to the left of my visual field). Usually they're followed by a relatively mild headache and a "washed out" (yet strangely refreshing at the same time) feeling for the remainder of the day. On one occasion I had a double aura (back to back), however thus far this was an isolated incident. I'd say that I've had a total of maybe 20 episodes in the past 12 years, and that number might even be a little too high. These episodes all share the same general characteristics:

1. They always have occurred during the summer months.
2. They always occur after an extremely stressful situation or experience. Usually the next day.
3. There is always a very mild headache afterward.
4. "The arc" (as I refer to it as) is always the same form and shape, down to the little twist at the very top of the "C". It never varies at all.

I own a small paving business, and the summer months are the most stressful for me, so stress seems to be the trigger of these episodes. Yesterday I had a horrific experience with an employee who I had to terminate on the spot, which nearly erupted into a physical confrontation. Later in the day, my wife received death threats directed at our entire family by this individual, which resulted in him being arrested last night. Needless to say it was an extraordinarily stressful day, and not surprisingly I suffered an aura today. Usually they catch me by surprise, but this time I actually predicted it and was right.

Throughout my adolescence and most of my adult life I have enjoyed marijuana on at least a semi-regular basis. I have always been a "night smoker", and it has never interfered with my business or personal life. Most people don't even know that I do it, and I use it now primarily as a sleep aid....Though I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I didn't thoroughly enjoy it as well. I began smoking every night (with the occasional break when it just wasn't feasible) about two years ago, and since then I noticed a major decrease in the frequency of my auras. Last summer I didn't have any! Unfortunately though, I've had two thus far this summer. I don't think however that marijuana has any sort of direct chemical correlation to the decrease in frequency of the auras. I do think that the fact that I'm more "chill" (for lack of a better way to put it) when I'm baking out almost night has has contributed to the overall reduction. Smoking before bed makes some of the residual effects linger into the next morning for me, and thus sort of sets the stage for the rest of my day....if that makes any sense. I don't wake up "high" in the traditional sense, however my mood is very stable in the mornings, bordering on apathetic. Before I got into this routine, mornings were generally very stressful for me. I'd stress out over the day's itinerary, worry about things, and would be just generally anxious about the day ahead of me. Now I don't give a crap in the mornings about anything else than having my coffee and reading the news and weather report. The rest can wait, and I seem to be able to "go with the flow" much better. My mind isn't instantly racked the second I open my eyes in the morning anymore. Just food for thought.....Personally, I'll probably do this until the day I die because it beats taking liver-killing anti-anxiety meds and the crap I've used for insomnia in the past (Ambien....NASTY stuff right there). Hopefully I'll eventually beat these auras, as I'm positive that they're stress-induced in my case. I thought I had em' beat for well over a year, but they've crept back in again. Trying to change the way your mind works is a tough process though, which takes time. If nothing else, when I get an aura I know it's time to take it easy. For me, it's my brain's way of telling me it's hit it's rev limiter.

that's pretty interesting Sol, what exactly did he do that made you recover 20 minutes later?
