We are looking for volunteers who are willing to help for either a few hours or the whole day. We need many volunteers to help make GRID a success! Volunteers will receive a free GSG t-shirt! 7. FREE INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS: MARCH 28 - APRIL 14
The Graduate School is pleased to announce that David North and Fred Stollnitz have again volunteered to act as a no-cost resource to graduate students as they complete their federal and state income tax returns. Free tax help will be provided on a walk-in basis on several dates between March 28 and April 14 in 3101 Susquehanna Hall (located behind South Campus Dining Hall). Mr. North, Mr. Stollnitz, and their assistants will act as a resource for graduate students in completing their returns, but will not offer individual tax advice. Students are responsible for obtaining their own professional tax advice, if necessary. 8. FREE ACCESS TO ONLINE TAX SERVICE FOR INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENTS
We are pleased to announce that the Graduate School and the Office of International Services will provide our international graduate students with a free online tax service called CINTAX. This service is for all graduate students classified as Non Resident Aliens for tax purposes. Per our licensing agreement, it will be provided to the first 1,999 students who register on a first come, first serve basis. CINTAX Access can be located on the Graduate School homepage (www.gradschool.umd.edu) under “Quick Links." After clicking the link, the student will be required to enter his/her UM directory id and password. Once authenticated, he student will be directed to CINTAX.

The University has hired a research firm to conduct focus groups with graduate and undergraduate students to learn about housing needs and issues. Participants will receive a $30 VISA gift card. Dinner and dessert will be provided. Three focus groups will be available: international graduate and undergraduate students (Monday, April 4, 4:30-5:30pm); graduate students (Wednesday, April 6, 5:00-6:10pm); and graduate and undergraduate students renting off-campus houses/apartments (Thursday, April 7, 5:00-6:10pm). 14. STRUCTURED GROUPS FOR THE WRITING PROCESS FOR GRADUATE ESOL STUDENTS BEGINNING TUESDAY, APRIL 5
The Learning Assistance Service is offering a Structured Writing Group for international graduate students interested in improving their writing skills. A basic model for evaluating writing will be presented, as well as steps in the writing process. With these structures in place, participants will assess their own writing needs, including grammar; will review rules; and will strengthen their own specific writing skills. You can start this group on April 5 for six sessions; it will meet meet every Tuesday through May 10, 2:00-3:00pm in Susquehanna Hall, Room 1123. The 3 panels are: GRIDuates – Making the Transition from Graduate School to a Career (9:00-10:30am); Communicating Research: The Value of Conferences and Research Travel (10:45am-12:15pm); and Capital Collaboration: Resources and Opportunities in the DC Area (2:15-3:45pm).
