'exit status 1' means it failed. Could you send me the whole output after executing that command?

Dear John,

I put my GCC4.6.1 folder in the same folder as the setup.py, and then did what you told me to.
There were a lot of messages on my cmd.exe window, which I don't understand. It looks like it
is working, but the last sentence says bvp_solver failed with exit status 1. I don't know what
that meant. How do I run Python BVP program now?Should I put my python script in any folder and
run it on IDLE window? Or I must put my pytho script in C:\Python27\scikits.bvp_solver-0.3.0\?

Thank you very much again.

Yours truly,

Kin Cheung

Hi Mr. Cheung,

No, the bottom of your output indicates it has failed to build. Your failure message is confusing to me and I am not sure what has caused it. The package compiles fine for me on windows7 python 2.6 (might be 2.7). One difference may be that I have my compilers installed in the normal location instead of the directory with the source. Can you try installing them from here? If it's not that, I don't have other ideas for what's going on. If you have access to python 2.6, you could install the precompiled windows version (here). Which you would install using setuptools ("easy_install scikits.bvp_solver").

When the package compiles the same script should also install it in the correct location. The package documentation has examples (link). Those same examples are also in the folder scikits/bvp_solver/examples in the source code.

Dear Mr. Salvatier,

Great! It looks like working now after I removed the "build" directory
elsewhere. The setup created a new "build" I think. I have attached the output.

Now, what? Should I then run my python program with bvp just like any
other python program, or should I somehow put my python script in
the same folder as the setup.py? Would you give me a sample program with bvp?

I appreciate very much your help.

I want to compare the python with Matlab bvp4c. I noticed that there may be
some difference between Matlab and Python for the sample problem of counterflow
heat exchanger. Matlab considers that the fluids mix whereas python distinguishes
the hot and the cold fluids in separate tubes.

Many thanks.

This error is confusing to me. Try deleting the build directory and then
trying the command again. Let me know how that goes.
